Recycling of copper scrap greatly reduces natural resource exploration as an alternative source of copper metallurgy and has big advantage in investment, production cost and off-gas treatment, thus making the copper scrap smelting projects remunerative.
However, due to the wide source range, the copper scrap is classified as per its grade, to be treated by different smelting process, which is mainly divided into 3 groups described in the following table.
Copper Scrap Recycling |
|||
Group |
Copper Scrap |
Smelting and Processing Process |
Product |
A |
High grade copper scrap (Cu>98%) |
Shaft furnace smelting + heat holding furnace + continuous casting + continuous rolling |
High conductivity copper rod; copper plate and copper foil |
B |
Brass Scrap |
Induction furnace melting and component adjusting + casting |
Brass |
C |
Low grade copper scrap |
Blast furnace smelting + P-S converter + anode casting + electro-refining |
Copper cathode |
A smelter for comprehensive recycling requires the above three processing line to undertake the challenges of wide copper scrap varieties. In case of unstable supply of raw material, operation rate of equipment is greatly reduced.
Metalcess is able to provide customer with all the three production lines. In the meantime, Metalcess has been focused on simplifying process and reducing investment and production cost. Breakthrough has been made to combine the process of brass scrap and low grade copper scrap. By metal distillation technology, our clients can extract not only copper but also high purity zinc and high purity lead. Customer-tailored Top Blown Rotary Converter (TBRC) makes the process more flexible to copper scrap recycling of different capacity.

Group B+C+ unclassified copper scrap/WEEE/ Black copper |
Top Blown Rotary Converter (TBRC) + anode casting + electro-refining By-process: Tin slag reduction and refining |
Dore Alloy; High purity lead; Copper cathode; High purity tin |
