Copper electrorefining (ER) production line converts copper anode to LME Cu-CATH-1 copper cathode and byproduct anode slime. Metalcess develops mini scale copper ER from 1T/d copper electrorefining system with modular design/easy installation, optimizing your return on investment.
In a copper cathode production line, the copper anode and stainless-steel cathode forming into pair are placed in the electrolytic cell. DC current is continuously applied across the anode-cathode pair to stimulate the anode copper dissolve into the electrolyte to get copper ions and other soluble cations, while copper ions get electrons and deposit on the cathode surface to get high purity copper cathode. Copper loaded cathodes are periodically stripped. The precious metal liberated from copper anode reports to anode slime setting down to the cell bottom. It needs to be collected regularly to recover the precious metal.
As the electro-refining process going, the soluble impurities dissolved form anode gets increased in the electrolyte like As, Sb, Bi,Ni, Co and Fe, etc. The accumulated impurities negatively influence the cathode quality. Therefore, it requires regular electrolyte purification to remove the impurities to maintain the electro-refining process performance.Metalcess also provides electrolyte purification system suitable for small capacity ER workshop. From the spent electrolyte, Metalcess uses common electro-winning or cyclone electrolysis for copper removal and membrane separation to split the diluted acid and nickel-bearing solution. The diluted acid is reused in the ER system, while nickel-bearing solution is processed with extraction and evaporation & crystallization to produce nickel salts. The whole process is environmental-friendly, no spent acid and waste water generated.
To maintain the ER production at higher efficiency and stability, the cellhouse is usually equipped with some supporting equipment. Metalcess has developed the machine tailored for different capacity, including anode preparation machine, cathode stripping station, scrap anode washing and polishing machine and short-circuit monitoring system. The machine is optimized in core function performance and overdesign is omitted, making the equipment suitable for the tailored capacity at higher utilization efficiency and lower investment cost.
