Exploitation of raw lead has gone down all the way to the deep-buried ore with the decrease of outcrop ores and shallow ores, resulting as higher and higher exploitation cost. The recycling of secondary lead relieve the world from over-exploration as an effective solution for saving energy, reducing cost and protecting global environment.
In worldwide the secondary lead recycling has outweighted lead production from raw ore.
Application of lead is centralized on lead acid battery (approx. 80%), due to the fact that, on one hand, the growing automobile and motorcycle industry requires more lead acid battery; on the other hand, the stricter environment requirements restrict such use of lead as in household appliance, electric appliance, gasoline addictive, cable sheath, lead pipe etc.
The current hot topic of secondary lead industry is how to recycle the spent lead acid battery in the manner of energy conservation, high efficiency and environment protection. However, there is no perfect system accepted by smelters worldwide, and such system is greatly subjected to treatment capacity and local environment requirements.
In terms of spent acid battery recycling, Metalcess provides a complete treating system includes the following steps:
1. Preliminary crushing to remove acid;
2. Secondary crushing, vibrating screen to separate lead paste, hydro-separator to separate PP scrap/heavy plastic scrap/ lead grid;
3. Lead paste (PbSO4) desulphurization or directly smelting with SO2 absorption;
4. Desulphurization solution (Na2SO4) purification (heavy metal removal), crystallization, waste water recycle;
5. Lead paste(PbCO3) fire –refining;
6. Lead grid melting/refining/casting;
Spent batteries are usual from motorcycle, car, truck and etc. The recycling system can treat the batteries with or without AGM plate. The final products are lead and lead alloy ingot/PP scrap/heavy plastic scrap and Na2SO4 crystal.
