Copper Sulphate Crystallization and MVR


Copper sulphate solution is a product through copper ore leaching and extraction or copper electrolyte purification. The copper sulphate solution can be further treated to copper anode by electro-winning or to copper sulphate crystal.


MVR (Mechanical Vapor Recompression) evaporation technology for copper sulphate crystal is noticeably advantageous in energy conservation, reducing energy cost by 3/4 compared with conventional two-effect evaporator. The key point is that the secondary steam can be recycled after enthalpy increase by mechanical compression, greatly decreasing the demand of fresh steam and process water.


MVR is simple in structure and takes less floor space. ROI is optimized to two years, and therefore it is widely accepted and applied for the crystallization of not only copper sulphate, but also sodium sulphate, nickel sulphate, cobalt sulphate, etc.   


The core technology of MVR lies in steam compressor, with centrifugal vapor compressor and Root’s compressor being widely used. The evaporation and crystallization system applies pressure- reducing evaporation where the vacuum is maintained by water-ring vacuum pump.


Feed to the system is at ambient temperature and pre-heating uses cooling water or fresh vapor when necessary. The heating for evaporation uses horizontal falling-film pipe for high heat exchange efficiency.
