The
shaft furnace is featured with high thermal efficiency. Therefore, shaft
furnace is widely used in copper continuous casting and rolling system as the
melting furnace. It can also be used for the melting of spent copper anode
scrap from copper electrorefining system. In common practice, the copper anode
scrap from ER was melted in the anode furnace. With shaft furnace, anode
furnace is liberated from spent copper anode scrap melting and the energy
consumption required by shaft furnace is less than anode furnace.
Metalcess recommends shaft furnace for melting spent copper anode scrap and casting to anode. Energy consumption (LNG) is about 90m3/t. copper. Maximum melting capacity: 8-25t/h.

The copper material is carried by a tipping trolley ascending to the furnace door and then discharged to the furnace cylinder. The descending copper material is heated up by the rising off-gas. In the furnace hearth, copper is molten into liquid quickly at the centralized flame heating area in the furnace hearth.
